So, summer was spent doing not much art, honestly. I should have realized that being an assistant for another painter (http://sarahkrepp.com/) means you probably won't have much will left at the end of the day to work on your own stuff.

Classes start tomorrow. My schedule of five studios and one academic has been reversed into four academic and two studios. Trust me, I'm posting it half to remember it myself.

Monday: American Social History 6-9
Tuesday: Existentialism 1-4
Wednesday: Topics in European Lit: Illness as a Metaphor 9-12, Film Analysis 1-4
Thursday: Intermediate Graphic Design 9-4
Friday: Intermediate Typography 9-4

Apparently there's a big AIGA graphic design conference coming to my school, hopefully some good stuff will go down. I'll try to post more art as the semester starts.

So, the semester's over, and I'll never, ever take a ratio of five studio classes to one academic ever again. Ever.

This was something I painted in one night for my painting critique. I'm still trying to find the right balance between representation and more generalized forms.

This Friday I'm attending two gallery things. The first is a show featuring a piece by Matthew Woodson (ghostco.org) and SAIC's undergrad show opening. I'm really excited to see one of Woodson's things in person, though I'm not quite sure if I'll approach him. There's no non-creepy way to say "Hey, I like your work. I've kept track of it since high school. Oh, and I go to the same college you did."

So, I just had my last day at my summer temp job... I couldn't be more relieved. I'm only in Vancouver until the 18th... so if you know me, you should call me so we can hang out one more time so I don't stay in my room for two weeks drawing.

Argh, I miss Chicago. While the trees and recycling efforts here in Washington are nice, I really miss the big city, the scene there... okay, I really miss Aleksandr. But, he misses me too, so it's all okay. At this point, though, I swear I even miss the CTA, which is saying something. I'm leaning towards maybe not visiting home so long next summer. It's almost as if I wished my hometown, and the people here, would stay the same, untarnished from that time.

So yeah, I'm jazzed. Although school is a bitch, and certain social situations could be better, I'm going to -3- concerts in 2 months : D Dir en grey (Feb. 13), then Of Montreal (Mar. 15), and finally the Blood Brothers (Mar. 25).

I've liked Dir en Grey for like 5 years now, and to think they're finally coming to the states, it's amazing. I think I'll die when I see Daisuke.

Sorry about not posting lately, I've been rather stressed and homesick. My classes are all starting to give out final projects, and I'm starting to feel a little, if not more than a little cornered. I'm staying here for Thanksgiving, which is rather depressing, however I plan to work my ass off on those projects. On deviantart, I'm thinking of setting up a paypall account and starting to do commissions over winter break, since I'll have about a month of free time. I'm still not sure what to charge, though....

So, I went out of town this weekend, and what do I have to buy? If you've seen Grave of the Fireflies (Hotaru no Haka), the little girl has a small little tin of candy that slowly gets eaten as they starve to death. And.... I found this candy at the store. So sad, but I had to buy it. So I do, and now it's sitting on my fridge and I can't eat it. Too goddamn sad. -_- I'll take a picture sometime tonight.

What a strange night!

Yeah, so. Last night, a friend from the dorm and I went to some friends' apartment and played scrabble. Then, one of their gay friends invited us to a party and paid for our taxi to get there. It was an outdoor, covered club, with many rockabilly and scene kids. It was also in a more hispanic part of town, I think, because there was that scene going too. There was pretty good techno, and we were dancing for hours... and I met a really, really cute guy named Frank. Hispanic, longer face, emo glasses, really good dancer, 19, and straight! So, he asked for my number and I gave it to him and told him to call me... all was good. The girls wanted to stay with the gay friend, so they led us to the bus station that would take us home. While we were waiting (it's 3am, dark, raining), people were crossing the street from the party..... and out of nowhere, this couple gets hit by a car doing like 30-35mph, and it drives off. I call 911, and they seem okay, although the woman might have broken her hip. We get home at 4am, and I sleep like a rock.

It was a really strange night.

I'm sitting in my dorm right now in Chicago, skipping a diversity orientation piece. Last night was the second night in my dorm, and all seems well. Chicago is just as huge and fantastic as I imagined, although I hate how far I am from the school (about 20 minutes walking... I'm screwed if I'm late). My classes seem good, although everything is a little overwhelming at the moment. Okay, more than a little.

So yeah, I leave for college on Thursday, all the way to Chicago, and it's just starting to sink in. My things were all shipped yesterday via Fedex, I can only hope that they get there on Saturday, the move in date. Dad still hasn't called me for most of the summer, and I've lost one of my friends. I'm not having a going away party, although I would like to see everyone again before I go.

I just bought myself a Canon digital XT, I hope I can find a day to shoot around town before Thursday. Meanwhile, I can't seem to concetrate enough to get any art done.

Staying Home

So... turns out that I was more tired than I thought last night. After staying up until a sold 1:30am, I didn't wake up to my alarm at 5 to get up and do homework. So, the logical thing to do was to stay home, right? Right? Guilt aside, I've started on a painting for AP Art, oils on wood. It's far from done, yet, but it's better than going to school.
